One way of finding out whether a government or political party is progressive or reactionary is to examine its foreign affairs relations and policy. A government or political party that is a friend of colonial, neo-colonial, imperialist and racists foreign governments to maintain the status quo of exploitation and oppression of people by people and nation by nation is a reactionary government or political party. It is led by opportunists, people without principles or who lack humane morals and who base their actions on purely narrow, parochial and selfish interests. Such seems to be Kenya’s government and the ruling political parties JUBILEE and CORD alliances. Incidentally, the two pro-capitalist and pro-imperialist populist political coalitions may differ in form but not in content. That is why SDP maintains that unless Kenyans get out of the boxes of the JUBILEE and CORD dominated politics they will not begin to realize freedom, participatory democracy, equality and sustainable development.
Listen to this for example. A few weeks ago President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is also leader of JUBILEE alliance political parties visited Israel. Several agreements were signed by the two governments that may include some that we are not informed about. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who is infamous for his arrogant, chauvinistic, extreme right wing and fascist policies as well as an unrepentant violator of the human rights of the Arab people declared his interests to visit Kenya soon in return!
Barely did Uhuru return than Raila Odinga, Kenya’s former Prime Minister who is also leader of CORD alliance political parties and the leader of the official ‘opposition’ enthusiastically travelled to Israel where he made the speech circulated in the Kenyan press and on social media. Both Uhuru and Raila were not ashamed to sit and dine with the oppressors of the people of Palestine despite the fact that Kenya officially recognises the liberation cause of the people of Palestine. Raila’s speech full of platitudes about democracy and elections in Africa exposed shamelessness and hypocrisy. He pretended not to be aware that to the Netanyahu government democracy is meaningful only if it maintains the colonial status quo of Israel in Palestine. The state of Israel is a fascist state as far as dealing with the resistance of the Palestine people against the robbery of their lands and country is concerned. Are Uhuru and Raila ignorant of the numerous UN resolutions against Israel’s violations of the human rights of the people of Palestine and other nations of the Middle East that have been violated by Israel with the assistance of the US and her imperialist allies with impunity?
During the visit to Israel, the two Kenyan leaders were informed that “Israel has of late embarked on a campaign to strengthen once-strong ties with the African continent, based on mutual interests including battling Islamic terrorism, combating drought and cooperating in the fields of medicine”. What has changed with Israel for Africa to befriend it? What mutual interest can there be between colonial Israel with Kenya and Africa? Is it collaboration against the oppressed people of Palestine? Is it working together to bury the just struggle of the people of the Palestinians? Yes, Kenya, Africa and the world need to unite in the fight against terrorism, but how can that be done with Israel, which itself is a source and manufacturer of terrorism? Aren’t Uhuru and Raila and all those opportunists who are being airlifted to Israel compromising the image of the people of Kenya before the progressive people and nations of the World?
SDP remains in solidarity with all people in the World that are struggling for social and national liberation. This includes the people of Palestine that are struggling against the Israel fascist regime, occupation and for their right to nationhood and self-determination that includes liberation of their country that is illegally occupied and held by Israel. Indeed, this is not only our internationalist’s duty as a socialist party but also as human beings that we have always held and expressed in Kenya, Africa and in international forums.
Furthermore, we believe and rightly so, that however long, protracted and difficult it may be, a just struggle will ultimately triumph. Who knew that South Africa would ever be liberated from apartheid that was not only based on the strongest capitalism in the African continent but also on world imperialism? The same can be said of the struggle for national liberation of Namibia, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau and, in fact, all anti-colonial struggles in Africa and the World. The people of East Timor painfully struggled for many decades for their liberation from the gigantic fascist regime of Indonesia that had occupied their country and committed gross violations of the human rights of the colonised people, including genocides. However, the resilient patriots of East Timor ultimately liberated their country and are now free to express their national sovereignty and independence.
Today, Western Sahara which is occupied by the brutal Kingdom of Morocco is the last colony in Africa. The gallant people of Western Sahara led by the POLISARIO FRONT continue to struggle for the liberation of their country in one of the harshest human and natural conditions in the World. SDP believes that Western Sahara will be liberated one day despite the propaganda and war that the Morocco brutal regime and its allies continue to perpetrate against the people. All this should be noted by the CORD leader who visited the occupied territory of Western Sahara at the invitation of the brutal King of Morocco in blatant betrayal of the oppressed people of Western Sahara and violations of the resolutions of the African Union.
Similarly, however powerful it appears, Israel will not rob the people of Palestine off their just right to freedom and ancestral land forever. The people of Palestine will never cease to fight for their liberation however long it takes. Fortunately, there is no just cause in the World that is as famous as that of the people of Palestine. Unfortunately also, there are also no people who have suffered and continue to suffer today under Israel and United States of America as the people of Palestine. SDP has always maintained that it is not enough for African Union and the majority of the members of United Nations to pass and support resolutions against Israel’s colonialism and fascism against Palestinians. Action speaks louder than words. We demand that the Kenya government must not betray the people of Palestine. Instead Kenya must join other nations that genuinely love freedom, peace, justice and the right of all nations big and small to self - determination to condemn and isolate Israel and its imperialist collaborators. Kenya must recognise and offer moral and material support to the people of Palestine in their just war of liberation from Israel instead of this despicable collaboration motivated by selfish and opportunistic foreign policy of the JUBILEE and CORD government and political alliances.
Finally, SDP supports the total liberation of Palestine. The two states solution proposed by some nations and people is as reactionary as it is illogical. Just as Africa and the World could not allow white South Africans who colonised South Africa from Europe several centuries ago to curve their own nation inside South Africa, it is unacceptable for Israel which was made in Palestine only a few decades ago to curve Israel inside Palestine. Palestine must be totally liberated and Israel dissolved to allow the people of Palestine of Arab origin and the people of Israel of Jewish origin to live together peacefully in a democratic country called PALESTINE. The SDP will always be in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
Shame to Kenya government’s betrayal of the people of Palestine!
Long live the national liberation struggle of the people of Palestine!
